About Troll Trail
Troll Trail is a tiny platformer that lies to you. Every level looks simple: walk to the door, and every level has a trick waiting for the moment you trust it. The floor in front of you drops into the void, spikes pop up exactly where you were about to land, blocks fall from the ceiling as you pass, the door slides away just as you reach it, a whole row of tiles crumbles under your feet, a wall of spikes chases you across the screen, and halfway through one level your controls suddenly swap left and right. Some floors are not floors at all, saw blades spin up and down in a rhythm you have to read, platforms carry you over a pit and then give up, and spikes rain from the ceiling, punishing both the players who rush and the ones who wait. You will die a lot, and that is the fun: every death restarts the level instantly with a cheeky message, and every death teaches you where the next trap is. Twelve hand-made levels, each tested to be beatable, award up to three stars for clearing them with two deaths or fewer, and your total death count is saved for bragging rights. Stuck for too long? After eight deaths you can skip a level by watching a short ad. Troll Trail plays free in your browser with a keyboard or big on-screen buttons on phones and tablets.
How to play
Walk with the arrow keys or A and D and jump with Space, Up or W. Hold the jump key to jump higher and tap it for a short hop. On a phone, use the on-screen buttons. Reach the door to finish the level. When you die, the level restarts at once: remember where the trap was and try a different way. Press R to restart a level at any time.
Questions
Is every level really possible?īŧ
Yes. Each level is played through by a test bot before the game is released, so there is always a way to the door, it just is not the obvious one.
How do I get three stars?īŧ
Finish a level with two deaths or fewer. Six deaths or fewer gives two stars, and any finish gives one.
What if I am stuck on a level?īŧ
After eight deaths on the same level a Skip button appears. Watch a short ad to unlock the next level; you can come back for the stars later.
Why did my controls change?īŧ
That is one of the trolls. On some levels left and right swap halfway through. Keep calm and press the other way.
