About Five Letters

Five Letters is a daily word puzzle in the spirit of the guessing game everyone was sharing a few years ago: one secret five-letter word, six tries to find it. Type any real five-letter word and press Enter. Each letter then flips over to give you a clue: green means the letter is in the word and in exactly the right spot, yellow means it is in the word but somewhere else, and grey means it is not in the word at all. Use those clues to narrow it down with every guess. Repeated letters are handled just like in the original game, so a yellow or green really tells you how many times a letter appears. Every day there is a new daily word, the same for everyone, so you can compare results with friends and family: when you finish, share your result as a grid of coloured squares that gives away your progress without spoiling the answer. The game keeps your statistics: games played, win percentage, your current and best streak, and a chart of how many guesses you usually need, so there is a reason to come back every day. Want more than one puzzle a day? Practice mode gives you unlimited random words to sharpen your skills. Five Letters is a great way to build vocabulary and logical thinking, takes just a few minutes, and works in your browser on phones, tablets and computers with the on-screen keyboard or a real one. It is completely free.

How to play

Type a five-letter word using the on-screen keyboard or your keyboard, then press Enter. Each tile turns green if the letter is in the right spot, yellow if it is in the word but in a different spot, and grey if it is not in the word. You have six guesses to find the word. Only real words are accepted. The daily word changes at midnight UTC and is the same for every player; Practice mode gives unlimited extra words. Press Share after a game to copy your result grid.

Questions

When does the daily word change?οΌ‹

Every day at midnight UTC. Everyone gets the same daily word, so you can compare results with friends.

How do repeated letters work?οΌ‹

Each copy of a letter is only coloured if the answer has that many copies. If you guess two E's and the word has one, only one E lights up.

Does Practice mode affect my streak?οΌ‹

No. Your statistics and streak only count the daily word. Practice games are just for fun and training.

How do I share my result?οΌ‹

After finishing, press Share. A grid of coloured squares is copied (or shared on phones) without revealing the word.

Is Five Letters free?οΌ‹

Yes. It is free to play in your browser, every day.
